Hello, welcome to this site in progress! If you need to get in touch with me, I can be reached via email at idiaz@uwaterloo.ca and will try to respond in a timely manner.
I am an Afro-Puerto Rican feminist multidisciplinary researcher based in Turtle Island and completing a PhD (ABD) in the Department of Geography at the University of Waterloo. My academic work explores the intersectional politics of race, gender, colonialism, imperialism, and the environment. Other works focus on the social dimensions of climate change, migration, arts, social writing, anti-racist and anti-oppressive praxis.
My dissertation project, Navigating Food Futures: Post-Disaster Food Sovereignty in Puerto Rico, is ongoing work funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council and generated in 2017 and seeks to understand constraints in the lives of individuals, communities, and their food system. This project builds on earlier work in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean which started in 2015. My other research activities have led me to Brazil, Costa Rica, Bolivia, El Salvador, and various places on Turtle Island since 2008.
In addition to research projects, I have also worked at several universities in the roles of Writing and Communication Advisor, Writing Tutor, Academic Advisor, Professional Skills Specialist, Anti-Racism, Equity, and Indigenization Advisor, and in municipal government as a Research Associate and Equity Specialist. I have also held the roles of Research Consultant, Operations Manager, and Programming Director for several nonprofit organizations.
I will be adding more to the site soon.
